Kingston Taylor Jordan is an American composer and conductor. A frequent collaborator across disciplines, he also works as a producer, pianist, arranger, and orchestrator.
For nearly a decade, he worked as a touring and session musician with artists including Angie Stone, Tia Fuller, Jeff Lockhart, and Mint Condition. He also collaborated frequently with the Bay Area collective The St. Valentinez and his own soul collective, Color Code, and occasionally releases music under the moniker KID LEON.
Since shifting his focus toward composition, he has written works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, solo piano, voice, and ballet. Esteemed by peers as a master craftsman, restless innovator, and bridge to a new generation of listeners, Kingston is emerging as a distinctive voice in contemporary music.
Taylor Jordan’s work deftly bridges orchestral tradition and contemporary American vernacular. Shaped by influences ranging from Beethoven and Debussy to Quincy Jones and Steve Reich, his music is characterized by melodic sweep, rhythmic drive, and harmonic richness. As a conductor, Kingston is particularly drawn to twentieth- and twenty-first-century repertoire, often programming his own work alongside composers who have helped shape his artistic language.
Kingston studied at Berklee College of Music. In 2013, he founded the Neapolitan Orchestra, an experimental collective dedicated to rethinking traditional conventions of classical music-making, serving as its Artistic Director and Conductor until 2017. He has also served as a clinician at Berklee College of Music, Providence College, Harlem School of the Arts, and the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
Kingston lives in San Francisco, where he composes, performs, and mentors aspiring musicians. When not working, he can usually be found wandering museums with his family or searching for a good bowl of ramen.
